Siron Clinical turns 25

Celebrating 25 Years of Expert Clinical Trial Support

by | Jun 25, 2025

As Siron Clinical turns 25, we look back to where it all started, sail through more than two decades of clinical trial excellence and look forward to what’s next for us and the clients we partner with.

Over the past 25 years, Siron Clinical has had successful collaborations with life science companies, biotech startup companies on a variety of projects from early phase to phase III, often leading to first market market authorization for our clients.

In July 2025, we celebrate a quarter of a century of successful partnerships, constantly growing expertise, and projects that bring critical treatments to the patients who need them.

Why it all started: Siron Clinical in 2000

In July 2000, Siron Clinical Founder and CEO Jan Balemans used his experience and expertise in nuclear medicine and clinical research to establish a new CRO, designed to fit a niche that was largely underserved.

“In the CRO environment at the time, I saw the potential to create a small niche CRO that would enable small biotech companies to benefit from the experience and expertise we had already built up,” said Jan.

At the time, CROs were getting bigger and bigger, and because of this, the flexibility they were able to offer was declining, along with their focus on the client. There was also an increase in the number of junior people allocated to projects, so sponsors had les access to expertise. At the same time, it was becoming more stressful for sites because of increased regulatory requirements.

“I saw the opportunity to provide the best services to all parties involved, to support the client while also helping the sites to deal with the increased burdens on clinical trials.”

Building a business from the values up

Our values are rooted in our beginnings: we decided not to be the big CRO, and instead to focus on expert, bespoke support that can grow with the sponsor. That meant having one contact person for the sites, no-nonsense expert support, and the ability to be agile.

“We didn’t want to become so big that there would be an endless line of managers and nothing could move,” Jan said. “That’s what made us a good company back then, and why we’re still successful today.”

In our experience, size is everything – and it’s the smaller CROs, like Siron Clinical, that can provide the flexible support that sponsors need.

Over the last 25 years, we have partnered with many sponsors across therapeutic areas, trial types, and research phases. In these collaborations, we have successfully passed many sponsor audits, and we have supported sites in completing successful FDA and EMA inspections. The partnerships we have built with clients over the years are strong, and as well as benefiting the sponsor, they have helped us continuously improve the quality of the services we provide.

Siron Clinical today: expertise on your terms

Looking back on the positive impact we have had on clinical trials over the last 25 years, we are proud of what we have achieved and where we are today. The clinical research landscape is competitive and challenging, and by working according to our values, with a focus on the patients we aim to help together, we continue to support sponsors around the world.

“We’re grateful to our clients for the trust and confidence they place in their collaboration with Siron Clinical, and our shared success really does prove that experience matters,” Jan said.

Communication is a vital part of successful collaboration, and it’s important to us that we stay in contact with valued partners as well as making new connections. In the past few years, we have attended various conferences, such as BioFit, Scope Summit and Swiss Biotech Days, to strengthen our network.

Cutting-edge developments, evaluated critically

Siron Clinical’s 25 years of success prove that there is still a need for CROs that pay attention to sponsors’ requirements, providing flexible, high-quality services that big CROs can no longer offer.

Given the challenges sponsor companies often face in getting financing to start a project, it’s also notable that a smaller CRO like Siron Clinical can better finetune a partnership from a cost perspective – an ability that will be even more valuable in the future.

What do the next 25 years have in store for Siron Clinical? “One thing I know is that experience will always matter,” Jan said. “Clinical trials are constantly changing, so it will be important for us to continue to grow that experience, remaining open to new developments, techniques and technologies. At the same time, we need to remain critical when we evaluate their value to clients in terms of shortening timelines, for example.

“In the end, it is, and has always been, about focusing on the patient,” Jan added. “That will remain a strong focus in the services we provide.”

Over the past 25 years, we have designed services that meet your needs, with the flexibility and high quality that can help you succeed. Find out more.
